Wow. It was incredible. This was the first book in a long time where, even when I thought I knew what was coming next, I had absolutely no idea. Amazing writing, storytelling, character study, and the questions it raises. And such a deeply sad and thought-provoking ending.

A gay love story set in socialist Poland. It started off well, but then I couldn’t really see where the story was going. The characters have different ideologies, and I think the author could have done more with that, but the story never really focused on it. At times it felt like a story about this situation, and at other times it was just a love story. It stayed somewhere in between.
The historical side could have been a good background for the story, but it didn’t really become part of it. It felt too present to just be a background, but not developed enough to really affect the story.
The language was good, but after a while it became tiring and felt exaggerated.
