  • If you could only save one book in your collection

Your house is on fire! You only have time/space to save one physical book from your collection - What book are you saving? (optional bonus question - why that book?)

“My fear of anger taught me nothing. Your fear of that anger will teach you nothing, also.” I read Uses For Anger in a college class and it really truly is so absolutely phenomenal. If anyone is looking for somewhat similar essays I really recommend Susan Strykers “My Words to Victor Frankenstein.” It’s about transmisogyny rather than racism but the philosophy towards anger and how important it is to the oppressed is super interesting in conversation with Lorde.

“As white women ignore their built-in privilege of whiteness and define woman in terms of their own experience alone, then women of Color become ‘other,’ the outsider whose experience and tradition is too ‘alien’ to comprehend.”

Feeling very Matilda vibes from this in terms of writing style. Definitely aimed at a younger audience but in a charming and enjoyable way.
