I like to read whatever I find interesting, which tends to be mystery/thriller, nonfiction, and literary fiction. I often go into books without knowing their premise. Will DNF a book very quickly.

I’m hoping this is one of many “classics” I get to this year. Overall, I found this to be a moving story since it’s a depiction of constant despair and anguish for those who come to America with this unrealistic dream of freedom and then become a slog to the capitalism that continues to plague our people. I see why Sinclair would be disappointed to reach people’s stomachs instead of their hearts but given the current state of the FDA (on the decline I fear) it did have more of an ability to touch my heart.

My heart goes out to every mention of a woman or child in this story for how they do so easily become products of the industry around them. I don’t know fully how I feel about the way things were handled with Ona and Marija. However, seeing as it’s from the perspective of Jurgis I think that there is some back and forth with the complexity of their situations in Chicago, especially as immigrants and individuals suffering at the hands of poverty and a society that will always take.

What will likely stick with me the most is how intertwined politics is to our lives but also how different politics may represent different perspectives or jobs within the market/economy. I’m really interested in this and will probably mull over it some more.

I think if you’re looking for phrases and reflection questions to help when you’re feeling down about yourself, then this is your book. Low self-esteem and critical self-judgment can weigh heavily on women with adhd and this one wants to talk about that a lot and give you some kind of inspiration about that.

One of the best BLs out there. I did dock half a star just cause the secondary couple isn’t all that interesting to me.
