I've been eyeing this book for years but kept putting it off since it wasn't my usual genre. But then a few days ago I saw this book was listed as #4 among the banned books in the US, so it sparked my interest, and here we are having a mild hangover. Honestly, I don't get the ban, if anything, this book deserves to be read. It delivers such a genuine and beautiful story of self-exploration and discovery.
Everything was written so vividly, it was like I was experiencing everything with Lily. I don't know how else to describe it, just that the experience felt so authentic with all these great and relevant representations from a historical viewpoint. Not just with Lily's identity but with political and cultural things that happen around her, post-war time was not an easy timeline to live in after all. Also, I wouldn't dare to question the historical accuracy given that comprehensive bibliography. So just hands down.
I just really don't get the transition povs from the parents and aunt. It was a glimpse of the past, but I can't really think of its connection to the current story. Also, I just hope that there's more to that ending. I yearn for more for Lily and Kath.
Anw, this book really sealed it for me that I'm a sucker for well-plotted and well-written books. Amazing prose, exceptional storytelling, message, and emotions. A must read.

I had a good laugh reading this. It was overly ridiculous but nonetheless so fun, just like the first book, though not as good and high stakes. The aunties are as chaotic as ever, I honestly can't imagine Meddy's everyday stress. I love their whole energy and dynamic, and I really enjoyed this. I kinda saw that ending coming, I believe it's a bit weak, but yeah, everything was overpowered by the fun and laughs so okayyy.

Very small gesture from Kath but Lily might have felt seen. It's a good feeling when someone gives you something because they just remembered you like it. I truly believe that love is to be known and remembered.

I did not expect to get a POV from Lily's mom. This is gonna get more interesting, so far this book is serving me things far from what I've expected. All this political conflict is so interesting specially by the fact that the history seems to repeat itself with all these deportation issues and fears/anxiety it causes. It's infuriating and sad honestly.

This memoir felt so raw and personal. I did not expect it to resonate with me as deeply as it did. The author did an excellent job conveying her emotions, the descriptions and dialogue are fascinating and mostly heartfelt. It was so effective that reading this made me feel anxious, sad, and even really hungry at times.
