This book proves why TJR is a safe author for me. I don't care if she subjects me to heartache 'coz by the way she's writing it it's always understandable and justified at the end. There's just something about her writing that captivates me and makes me feel the emotions and experiences of the characters like they are my own.
I won't lie, this book was not easy to read. There's a lot of jargon and it can be slow at times but what kept me going was the characters. How they started as strangers with dreams to forming a bond from their love for space. The thing is we were introduced to the characters when they're already in a dire situation so I tried to distance myself especially from the side characters involved in the mission to save me from further heartbreak. But somehow I can't help it coz they are so fun with their different personalities clashing, especially when they're together. You know that the bond was more than being coworkers and more of a friendship.
The romance? It was good! The lines, the yearning, the connection? It's giving. Tho I can say that some of the build up did really happen in the back. I also enjoyed Joan and Savanna's discussions or perceptions on so many things. It's so insightful and just hits the right spot. The book also delivers such a good representation of sexism and how same sex relationship was treated during that timeline (bruh i can't imagine how tough it must be to hide under the shadows when all you wanted was to be loud and proud).
As much as I enjoyed the book I did struggle with the shifting of timeline. It's just that it ruins my momentum and I kept losing my interest at times. Hmm what else? I also hated Barbara to the core. She got me stressing throughout. Also lowkey pissed at Joan for not having the bones to stand up for herself for so long. But anw loved what it delivers and loved how it ends. It was a rollercoaster last chapter but I believed it was the perfect ending.

holy cow I have never been so on the edge of my seat with a book! and what a unique concept in a genre that can get pretty formulaic.

Wow Joan's insight about the connection of theology and science was so mesmerizing. It reminds me of the thing that my fave science teacher always told us. That the more humans learn and explore the wonders of the world, the more likely they are to realize the existence of God. Because every fragment universe from smallest to largest was created with such thought and interconnected structure that it's hard to believe that there's no central figure responsible for all that. This chapter really emphasized my teachers teaching and I was reminded just again how beautiful and interconnected all things are. It really stuck with me.

Let me start by saying that I loved Verity, and just like everybody else, I was excited and expected something like that. But what is this? All throughout, I was utterly revolted and uncomfortable. The characters are ridiculously stupid, with distorted morals that are beyond repair. I honestly can't grasp their thinking process, they're so insufferable, and the fmc, Petra, has this really bad victim complex. Not even an ounce of caharacter development in sight for any of the characters. I hate that I was promised a thriller but was given whatever this book is. A book where somehow nothing happens for a chunk of pages, then it revolves around infidelity, weird games, and the mcs lusting for each other. Utterly appalled and disappointed beyond words.
I was definitely a better person before reading this.
