Can't believe my favorite character is a cardboard box.

A fantastic trip of stories that interconnect and intertwine into a greater plot, dipping in and out of a liminal space that exists overlaid on top of our world. I really enjoyed the freshness of some of these concepts -- not wholly new, but an entirely different take on them -- and how they spun into the grander scheme of things.

I'm typically not a fan of present tense omniscient, mostly due to the head-hopping that tends to happen with omniscient view, but a good present tense story disappears when it's good, and it becomes less about the tense and more about the delivery of a strong story, which is what this had. Omniscience dips in and out and is used sparingly as an additional little window to give the reader slightly more context. It felt balanced and well told, overall.

My only critique would be that I felt the final climax went pretty overboard and dragged on a bit too long without any place for my mind to stop and catch up. Since a lot of the story takes place in worlds overlapped atop our standard reality with rules of their own, tracking items, actions, and characters through the landscape can be difficult at times. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, the characters, and the struggles these characters had.

I would definitely return for more stories from this universe.

0 to 100 in about a chapter, this book gives you plenty to chew on while also leaving a substantial amount out. TWs for body horror, violence, erotica, and extreme gore, at the very least, each scene gives you the feeling of flickering in to something you shouldn't be seeing, like you've intersected so alternative reality or parallel universe that's moments away from collapsing in on itself. Overall enjoyed the ride, and would take another one with this author in the future.
