the most disappointing read this year. the most disappointing point is i think the lack of world building that so fuckin bad. so many plot hole, too heavily on romance--i know it's romantasy but i expect there's a balance between the romance and the world building context to make the story special. what makes me mad is the author take a war as the social context and the world building, but it so fucking lack the situation about the war itself. i mean the motives of the war and the impact of the war in that society in the story is non-sense and lack of explanation itself.
also the romance build-up i think it's too fast so it get's me bored when roman follow iris in avalon bluff and they basically flirting until get married at this point. i like their romance more when they are still writing letters anonymously. nevertheless, i still want to read book 2 to know more about the development. you better not disappoint me again.

took me years to finish this book. it is classic for a reason. the dystopian world building so uncanny and unnerving make your skin crawl. it actually reflects government right now hahaha but this big brother govt is more extreme extreme far right totalitarianism. the altered history, the surveillance, no freedom rights. i think orwell kinda have issues with communism/stalin rising at that time, it kinda reflects on his story in this novel. it's good to understand the literature set in post ww2 but like usual it needs understanding to the bigger context about author and his perspective itself when he was writing this story.
