I probably am going to edit this review, but I was bawling at the end. The writing was so beautiful and so timely for what SO MANY people are going through. It was sad and enthralling and edgey and nostalgic at the same time. I cannot wait to reread this.

"What do all stories have in common, Witch?...they end...they may be revised or resold. They may, perhaps, change. A closed book may be reopened. But they must all have an ending. An ending may be delayed or rewritten. But the end, in its finality, comes for us all."
I loved this. It made me think about book franchises where you can tell that authors don't want to face the finality (I know what authors I'm talking about but I'll keep that snark to myself 😂). Postponing the ending can be even worse than finishing the story because it makes it so ungainly that the original foundations are not strong enough to hold up all the additional elements.

I get frustrated with romantasy writing where, as soon as the romance starts, the fantasy takes a back seat. I like how Tasha Suri focuses the Isle plot and the individual plots and keeps the romance in the vicinity. Its not put to the side, but she gives the slow burn a distinct edge that is nice to read.
