I think I will be forever grateful for this book. Briseis may be one of my favorite women from stories surrounding greek mythology after reading this. It is not a romance, yet not totally a tragedy. Briseis is a royal women who suddenly is thrown into slavery at the fall of Lyrnessus, and given to Achilles. A man she has sworn to hate due to the death of her husband and brothers. Yet, she finds a sort of rhythm in her new life and finds ways to adjust. I doesn't sugar coat the life of a female slave, or idolize the Greek soldiers like most mythology retellings do. It focuses on the women and how their experiences might have been. I truly enjoyed this book and will read the other two in the series.

“…I looked down at my body. I put both hands on my belly and thought how totally this flesh, this intricate mesh of bone and nerve and muscle, belonged to me. In spite of Achilles, in spite of my aching hips and thighs.”

Random different pov? Interesting. But I’m more interested in the plagues and her own journey of esteem. Forget the war, I’m here for the character development! (And the war lol)

This picked up very quickly and is keeping its pace. The story flows pretty well with the background and details without getting too lost.

I had read Myah Ariels debut novel "When I Think of You" and own a copy, so I was very excited to hear when she was coming out with this one. She did NOT disappoint and I can officially say that I am a fan. The plot was so there, I love Ella and Miles and their love for each other. Even the "side" characters were amazing and had substance to them without the MCs. My only thorn is that it wasn't longer and felt the tiniest bit rushed in the end. I just couldn't get enough. Definitely excited for what she has in store for future releases!

Ooo I can’t stand mothers like this. Ella deserves for her mom to have her back through an extremely hard time in her life. A time when a woman needs her mom.

Yall, forced proximity is one of my fav tropes. I can already tell this book is about to be amazing.

This book went well beyond anything that I could have expected it to be. The plot twists were twisting, the banter was bantering, and, in the end, the tears were flowing. I may be biased because I absolutely love this series, but this book was phenomenal. After I loan it to a friend to read, I might just read the series all over again just so I don't have to live without Kai and Paedyn. I was not, and still am not, ready for their story to be over. Definitely going on my "hall of fame" shelves.
