What a fun ride! I picked this up on recommendation because I was looking for books about trans characters where their identity wasn’t the main conflict, and while that isn’t entirely true of this story, I think this first book has set the groundwork for the sequels to fall more accurately into that category.
This is my first book by Juno Dawson, but I adore her prose. This is not a horror novel, but some of her descriptions could have been from one and I love a darker-toned fantasy.
This is essential fantasy for our times, especially if you live in the anglosphere. I am from the U.S., but I have lived in the U.K. and my heart goes out to my trans siblings as our governments look at each other across the pond and say “hold my beer.” I cannot wait until the day they stop taking their insecurities out on us and leave us alone, but until then, I hope we all manage to break free and find our own covens
