  • YA BOOK RECS

I just finished their vicious games and I’m now in a reading slump. I’m looking for closed door, no smut books. I have been recently getting into thrillers but not horror ( something like the naturals). As for themes romantasy, pirates, regular romance, and thriller suggestions will be preferred but I’m truly open to anything.

  • Book Hacks

What book hacks do you have?

This is inspired from another post in the clerb where I commented about how I hate a vendor of a used book market in my town. He sells special editions and OOP (Out of Print) copies of books on Thursdays but writes in Sharpie the price on the covers No stickers. Just straight Sharpie right on there!

    Alt Text

Did you know you can use hand sanitizer to get Sharpie off your covers? 👀

Yep. Hand sanitizer. So you put a sheet of paper inside the book where the first page is located, then on the cover put a pea sized bit of hand sanitizer where the Sharpie is and wipe it away with a tissue or cloth and voila no more Sharpie.

Obviously this won't work on the pages just the cover.

But this is so painful to do on OOP or SE's!

  • Acclaimed book-to-movie adaptations you don't like/hate

Sooo.... I watched Nolan's The Odyssey two days ago and I finished reading Wilson's translation of Odyssey on that same day...

You can guess where this is going. xD

Nonsurpisingly, I have my gripes and issues with it - both old and new. I'm looking for new victims to vent to lol. I'm disagreeing with positive reviews out there, and I'm internally cringing at the thought that this might be a contender for the Oscars (which it will be, ugh).

So to make it appropriate for the book club: What critically acclaimed book-to-movie adaptations have you seen that you particularly didn't like, or even despise?

Let's step away on dunking on films like the Percy Jackson films with Logan Lerman or Andy Serkis' Animal Farm, because they performed poorly at the box office and with film critics anyway. Instead, let's break apart films that the majority actually liked, maybe even won awards, but for you it didn't do the source material any justice. Were the small detail changes so bad that it affected the entire plot, what absolute major thing did they leave out that help drive a theme/plot/or character etc, was the casting choice atrocious, did the author distance themselves for the film production, or worst case scenario, did that adaptation ruin everyone's perception on the original story?

  • Drew Pagebound as a unicorn

pagebound as a white unicorn with a yellowish horn, pink legs, a long lionish tail with a purple mane that's green at the tips. It has the pagebound logo on one of its haunches

And you bet I was listening to The Last Unicorn by America on loop the entire time I was drawing this!!

  • Last book that made you cry?

I haven't recovered from what Roots by Alex Haley did to me. I very rarely cry at books, and that one got me HARD.

It got me thinking about the other books that have really had that emotional pull on me because of the season of life I was in when I read them. The Amber Spyglass got me bad as a teenager because of the character losses and separations that happen. Little Women (IYKYK) got me so badly that I don't remember anything else that happens in that book, except for the IYKYK. And the legend of Icarus! I read it in grade school and cried in the middle of class. It just really got me.

What books have made you cry? Were there any that were really formative to you as a reader?

  • Your PB writing habits

I sometimes catch myself using similar words or phrases in my reviews or comments. If PB were to have a feature that could show you which words you repeated the most in a month, I would probably be embarrassed at how many “absolutely”s and “action-packed volume”s I’d end up with 😅 So I was super curious to know what other folks love to say on here! What words/phrases do you think you use often?

  • TBR vs Interested

What is the difference to you between TBR and Interested tag? No other tracking app ive used has it so I'm not sure how to fit it in.
