Unfortunately, this book just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters, their struggles, or their motivations. The only positives I can mention are the beautiful cover and the way the backstory of the main characters’ relationship was presented.

Tropes: — gods vs humans — childhood friends to lovers — forbidden love — slow burn — found family — fated mates — 1st person, dual POV
A wonderful addition to a familiar duology — though not in my case… I mean, I haven’t actually read the duology yet, but this book completely swept me away. I’m eagerly looking forward to the moment I can dive into it as well.
In this book we get a closer look at the world of the gods through Matilda, a young messenger goddess, and Vincent, a mortal man. It’s the story of how their fates intertwine — of wars, betrayal, hope, and love. This book made me shed more than one tear (or was it PMS?). The events take place before those of the duology.
I absolutely love the characters and their stories.
For me, the book carries a bit of Heaven Official’s Blessing vibes in its mood.

Tropes: — found family — he falls first — love after loss — age gap — slow burn — trauma & healing
The story in this book instantly gave me The Perfect Man vibes — you know, the Hilary Duff movie. Except here it felt like an alternate version where the mom never actually finds the perfect guy and the kids bail at the first chance they get. That twist means the heroine ends up carrying all that hurt with her for the rest of her life.
I adored The Perfect Man back in the day, but sadly I just couldn’t click with these characters — the ones in the book — the same way.

This year, I’ve been haunted by second chance romances — and I’ve loved most of them. Unfortunately, it wasn’t love at first sight with this book. I really enjoyed the first installment, so I had high hopes for this one. It wasn’t bad, but it just couldn’t hold my attention.
