my overall sentiment is that this was far too long.. while I guess the repetitiveness made the development of the character relationships more authentic it really just seemed to pull me into a never ending loop that I felt myself trying to rush through a lot of it? yet I couldn’t. as a typically speedy reader I couldn’t believe how slow the pages were passing.
there are some really icky plot lines so trigger warnings beware but once I got into part 2 it was a lot more enjoyable. With EVERYTHING that happened the end felt a little too neat for me to be quite honest. I feel like I would have eaten this up if I read the original on wattpad or whatever but I’ve just read so many amazing fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian novels at this point that it just didn’t hit as hard.
that last line is a swift punch to the gut though.

none of these characters were likeable, the social commentary fell flat and it dragged !!! basic premise of the plot was fine and had some bright spots but overall meh

This was my first historical fiction and only read it due to it being highly recommended by a friend but I was so impressed and need more! Any recommendations? I prefer not to cry but if the book is good enough I will put myself through this again.
