This is going to sound so very heartless but I don't understand how Gracie is the one that is making both of them so desperate. She does not seem any more or less interesting or worthy of love than the family members they have had before. It feels like a big hole in the story.

i think this sucks actually (feeling like dnf-ing cause i cannot get a grasp on either of the main characters or like, feel any sort of real attachment to them)

DNF @ 50%
I love the premise and there is so much potential but I’m struggling to connect with anything and I’m halfway through. The plot isn’t interesting me enough to push through and try and finish this.

Might come back to this book at a later date, but it's just a frustrating read at the moment. Nothing goes right, which is fine, but all the characters are so miserable. I wish there was a better balance of the good and bad sides of their situation, but it's just a torrent of the terribleness of it all. Wish there were more moments of just Viv and Aria, just them outside of school or another social gathering. And maybe even Daniel.

So far, I’m more interested in Grayson’s POV than Jameson’s. I’m struggling with Jameson’s storyline but I’m hoping I’ll enjoy it more.
Also, realising how much I’d forgotten about what happened in the trilogy. Last thought about how I like seeing the relationships between the Hawthorne brothers from their POV. I’m so invested in the characters in this series and it’s nice to be back in this world even though I’m nervous. I don’t tend to like spin offs or series being extended but let’s see…

Overall, I really enjoyed this. I loved the found family and setting in this. I liked the characters and I was enjoying the romance aspect too. I was quite certain this was going to be a 5 star read but the ending... I get why Mandanna chose to go in the direction she did. Narratively, it makes complete sense. But I think the way it was executed just didn't work for me. Maybe if the story had been a little longer, I might have liked it more. That being said, the ending didn't ruin the experience for me and it wasn't the worst, most disappointing ending. I am still satisfied with the conclusion of the story. I just wish I had more time in the story after that.
