I am growing tired of the formulas. Regular girl is secretly special! Dangerous stranger is so handsome and secretly nice! This ancient feud was secretly a big misunderstanding! Don’t get me wrong, none of these are bad and I love it when they’re done well but I just need something different.

I’m looking for recs that feel completely different than anything else you’ve read. No “for fans of,” no “Noun of Noun meets Bowl of Mac and Cheese.” Books that leave you at a loss for anything to compare them to.

Are the amount of scientific explanations pretty consistent throughout the whole book? Or mostly in the beginning while Grace is figuring out what's going on? I already feel like they're dragging the pacing down a lot.

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

This was overall a good book. I don't have a lot to say about it. It was a little slow, and I wanted more of a gradual romance between Lenore and Carmilla. I couldn't buy the connection between them because it happened too suddenly. But I liked Lenore's character arc, which was the main plot. The ending was abrupt which felt odd in contrast to how slow the rest of the book was, but it was a satisfying ending anyway.

Glad I read it, had a good time, but probably wouldn't re read.
