3.25âď¸ I struggle to understand how Chloe was good at her job as a psychologist given that she seemed to jump to such wildly wrong conclusions in her personal life.
She doesnât let anyone speak and explain what we learn would be pertinent information.
The only thing that she was partially right about guessing was where Riley was.
Iâve read enough books that I was able to predict the main twist from the get go. But took sooo long to get there.
Things that seem so wildly nonsensical:
- Why would her father think that his choice was a good ideaâŚin like any version of reality?
- Why would Chloe trust the alarm system of a man who she feels has directly threatened her? Especially given the video feed aspect?
- While Iâm sure there are very specific circumstances in which this would make sense, why did she say she was planning to get PhD BEFORE her Masters??
Anywho, this dragged a lot but became interesting toward the very end as the reveals started happening.

3.5âď¸ This was interesting, but didnât necessarily present anything surprising about the cult mentality. However, I think it could be an enlightening read for those people who arenât too far gone, but are very susceptible to these types of influences whether itâs public figures and influencers, workout classes, or religion.
And while it was stated that there was no such thing as brainwashing, I felt like there wasnât enough discussion on how people fall prey to them beyond biology and life experience. But maybe thatâs a whole other book.
