I love B.K. Borison’s writing style - It’s descriptive and flowy, there is great banter, it’s just a good time. While Grim Tidings and Good Spirits are standalones, the overlapping references were well done. Overall I liked Grim Tidings better than Good Spirits! I thought Darcy was a more believable and flushed out main character than Harriet. Maybe it’s just that the gritty, worn down Reaper is more believable to me than an overly happy “I’m too perfect for my family” Harriet. Sometimes I struggle to follow the motivation behind the character’s actions, which made some plot points in Grim Tidings a little confusing. But the resolution of this book was perfect. I received an eARC from Avon and Harper Voyager through NetGalley.
P.S. Gideon is such an interesting character! I can’t wait to get his and Isabella’s story (with the music box?!)

The perfect mix of politics, science, and art history. I really enjoyed how the book focused on specific people rather than moving strictly linearly through time. There ends up being some jumping back and forth, but the repetition of major events from different viewpoints was really interesting! It also breaks the book up into very manageable chunks and reads quickly. I read this to prepare for my trip to Florence :)

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.
