it’s been a long time since i’ve had a book hold me like this one did. it’s beautiful prose, nuanced characters, and strong themes made for an intense, thought-provoking read i couldn’t put down. life, death, identity, culture, meaning, language; everything was woven so intricately throughout this story. i can’t speak highly enough about it.

I think this is a great interpretation. I was a bit thrown off by that scene as first, but I felt that the author was being so intentional with the writing that it had to have been put in for a reason. I had also noted that the act itself felt very removed from the person that we (through Cyrus’s eyes) know as Arash so the connection makes a lot of sense.
