A really good novel that brings up a lot of emotion. It deals with hard subjects about addiction and doesn't give you the fairy tale happy ending that most YA novels do- which I love. I enjoyed so much about reading this book and the story wrapped me in but there are a few overdone tropes that bothered me that distracted from the more important aspects of the narrative in my opinion. For me personally though the emotional connection I built with the story and characters overrode the annoyance of some of these tropes so l still gave it a solid 4 stars.
“My dad once told me life would get complicated when I grew up. I’m guessing this isn’t what he meant. My mom, on the other hand, agreed with him, and I’m guessing this kind of thing is exactly what she meant.”
