Dearly Departed by Chip Pons was an absolute delight, start to finish. Levi Wilder is, on the surface, a ray of sunshine and an active member of his small-town community. Hayden Harlow is, on the surface, neither of those things. He also isn't technically a mortal human, and is rather the retired god of the underworld: Hades. This grumpy/sunshine romcom is infused with underworld shadow magic, where Hades is fated to live a mortal existence and for some unknown reason settled down in Stonevale, New Jersey. No shade to New Jersey, it's a beautiful state.
This story has an excellent cast of characters. Levi and Hayden are of course the stars of the show. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I loved how each of them helped the other grow and bloom. The supporting cast of this book were just as phenomenal. Levi's best friends are hilarious, warm, and bring so much life to this story. They show that living is so much better with a community that supports you, and that you can love back just as fiercely.
Dearly Departed is a beautiful story about community, grief, and love, with a side of some fun, spicy shadow-daddy moments. I absolutely devoured it, cried a little, and definitely recommend!!
