DNF at 78%. I feel like I should like the story more, bc it checks a lot of my boxes (magic, tea, Chinese culture). Even though the premise was very very promising, the story lost me. I was also pleasantly surprised by the narrator in the audiobook, bc the pronounciations of Chinese names and words, but the story just didnt stick with me for some reason.. Too bad.

Idk why. Maybe it's the pacing? Rushing through the parts I like (magic and competition)?? And is this supposed to be a romance too? Bc I dont feel it, at all. Altho the narrator did a great job. I really enjoyed the audiobook for as long it lasted.

For a queerphobic guy, the author sure did a good job writing about female intimacy. I mean, the love confessions, the physical contact and just the vibe of it all give very much sapphic. I like how he presumably wrote this story as a warning against lesbianism and female lust, but it really just inspires today.
