it’s honestly not the best classic to start with as a beginner. i had a hard time understanding some parts, so i got bored pretty easily (it literally took me around 4 months to finish, lol). that being said, since persuasion is a slow burn, i could really feel just how slow the plot was—and in a way, that worked for the story.
i ended up enjoying it a lot, especially the tension between anne and frederick. their relationship is subtle but emotionally intense, and the slow burn made every interaction feel meaningful. it’s definitely the kind of slow burn i wouldn’t want to experience for myself, yet one that will satisfy any form of yearning.
i also understand where lady russell was coming from when she persuaded anne. honestly, i don’t think anne and frederick would have worked out if they had gotten married at such a young age.
