I was nervous to start this but holy shit it's so good. Smashed 50 pages during an hour train ride.

Ok, was ready to cast this off as obvious and dramatic after the first two chapters. Reflected and realised I don't read enough of the genre yet to be so judgy. Now finding it cute and playful (though it still feels really fast paced). Helps that there's queer rep. Plus he matches her vibe despite...everything.

Sort of hard to word the question, but basically, what's a book that you've loved to read, even if the genre/style isn't your normal taste?
My example is "The Poet X" by Elizabeth Acevedo. I normally don't enjoy poetry style books, but I was assigned this one in my women's lit course in college and absolutely devoured it. So much that I picked the book for one of my "my taste" books even though I still don't usually enjoy other poetry.
So what's yours?

Ahhh very gothic. The descriptions of the mansion are incredible, not sure where we're going with the protag's lines of interest though.
