This is outside my typical genres, but as an R.F. Kuang fan, I had to check this out. The Taipei setting was atmospheric, and I enjoyed learning about the Chinese language and culture. Honestly, this felt like reading a memoir. The characters felt believable, and the story was something I could see being based on Kuang's own life experience. Lily wasn't always the most likable, yet I found her relatable. Overall, this was ultimately a character-driven story with little plot beyond the everyday life of a college student. Still, I found it to be an interesting and reflective read!
