TW: bullying, sexual abuse of a minor, pet death, suicide attempt
This book happened to be available and about the right length of audiobook for a car trip, which is the only reason I picked it up. Unfortunately, I wound up finding it hard to pay attention to, as everything felt dragged out, unrealistically handled, and none of the characters were even slightly likeable. The twist was pretty obvious, and because it took so long to get there it lacked any of the emotional punch it might have. I feel like this is just a story of a handful of people dealing with things in the least rational ways possible.

I posted a review on the Hello Chaos A Love Story: The disorder of Seeing and Being Seen page, and realised... practically nobody else has read it! I loved it, so I thought I'd reach out and ask if people had similar experiences.
I think it can feel a bit lonely in the forums of some of the less popular books, so I wanted to make a space where you can gush and be supported about your favourite niche read. (Or even reads where there are active forums but you feel you don't get to participate enough!)
One of my longstanding rules is that I WILL add anything to my TBR if it comes with a glowing recommendation, so this is your chance to get a buddy for your favourite niche book :)

I feel like it‘s the general understanding that books tend to be superiour to their adaptions, but sometimes I feel the exact opposite way.
The two most prevalent example for me are:
How To Train Your Dragon honestly I don‘t think the movies & series can be compared to the books they are fundamentally different stories and I just prefer the movie one (I still remember the disappointment when I got the books from the library and they were nothing like the story I was used to 🥲, though I do wonder where I‘d stand had I read the books before the movies)
AMC‘s Interview with the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat If I‘m being completely honest I haven‘t read the books, mostly because I know that I probably won‘t like them, I‘ve seen a lot of people make show/book comparisons and I always prefer the show version
Are there any adaptations you guys feel the same way about?

after reading an earlier post by @Loyaute, i’ve been thinking about the state of queer literature at the moment. there is such a long way to go in terms of who gets to readily see themselves on bookshelves, but it’s so life-affirming to think of how much more (high quality) representation queer kids get to grow up with now compared to when i was coming into my identity. i’m sure many can relate there.
still, i remember the absolute revelation that discovering queer books was. where i didn’t have queer elders, i had literature. i must’ve spend a couple months straight reading all the lesbian coming of age books i could get my hands on at the time, and the one that i remember vividly — that gave baby me so much hope and just enough pride — was annie on my mind. what was yours?
