A satisfying end to El/Elen’s story! Lots of unanswered questions about the world, the politics, and the side stories.

There were some gaps and holes in the later chapters that made no sense - El looking for Kem and all of a sudden him being there? I had to re-read the page several times because it felt like entire sections of the story were missing. Perhaps an issue with the ebook or an editing oversight.

I really enjoyed the characters in this series and this book in particular showed growth and character development!

Plot wise, a whole lot of nothing is happening for everything to be resolved in the last few chapters. So the beginning was a bit of a slog.

I wouldn’t usually have picked up this book, but read it for book club.

Difficult to actually read due to the dialect/writing style of the dialogue, I switched to the audiobook and it was much more enjoyable. He audiobook was narrated incredibly well.

Plot is crazy, so much happens in the last 10% of the book. Janie’s story is compelling, the cast of supporting characters were great, and the scene setting was beautiful. Some of the passages in this book read like poetry. A book about keeping hopeful about love and being true to yourself. Even if it takes 20+ years.

The world building was interesting! This felt like a full high fantasy world with a complex history. The “textbook”/Luviara’s journal chapters were dense and too long … I ended up skipping them.

I liked Elen as a protagonist - and the scenery descriptions were very immersive. The plot was a bit slow and sort of low stakes, mostly focused on a race on foot/by carriage to a specific destination. This book felt like a lot of set up for hopefully a big payoff in book two?

I’ll keep reading to find out!

So using a fake textbook entry as the first chapter is certainly a choice? That was a lot of proper nouns 🥴 I’d prefer show not tell for world building
