Holy cow, this book was amazing!!! I originally bought it physically a couple years ago (a shame to have waited this long, I know) and then a week ago, I found out it was based on an Edgar Allen Poe story, and I'm a huge fan, so I started reading it. This book was so great, I think that Rutherford did a great job retelling Poe's work, it was very creepy and gothic, just like Poe. The storytelling was phenomenal, and the mori roja and the reborns were so disturbing and unsettling, in the best ways. I really liked how she implemented the Jewish aspect, it was interesting to read the authors note and learn about how Jews were mistreated. Seraphina's story was so interesting, when she was inside the castle, I felt claustrophobic with her, which was interesting. It felt like such a relief when she got to be who she really was, not faking being a princess with a different name. The last scene with her and Dalia had me tearing up, it was so sad and sweet!! Serephina and Nico were so freaking adorable!!! I loved the little romance of them that we had at the end, I'd much rather her be with Nico than Henry (ugh). Overall, if you like a creepy gothic book, and/or are a fan of Poe, I definitely recommend this book! I'm excited to read some of the author's other books as well.
