A thoughtful perspective into the traditional values of a homemaker in Japan, and its societal expectations of what women should be. I think this is a book that requires a bit of savoring. I liked the descriptions of dishes and the idea of what it means to find “the right levels (taste) for you.” I did not enjoy some of the book’s characters as I found them to be grating and tedious to read through.

I think all of the attitudes about cooking for yourself and others is really interesting in this book, so I'm curious how many of us enjoy and take the time to cook for ourselves?
Do you find it fun? Cumbersome? An expression of personality? Are you too tired? Busy? Don't see the point?
Do you like cooking for others?
(I'll put my answer below).
