I want to talk about this!!

I wish more people read this book so I could talk to someone about it! I finished this months ago and my thoughts are regularly brought back to it. it’s a collection of short stories about the devil, some amusing, some thought-provoking. of course there were many trying to have it banned when it came out, so it never got the appreciation it deserved (and I’m not convinced that they even read it in the first place). it’s such a treasure!

I really love the wordplay in this book, and the flow of Uncle Ott’s poems. I know that Natalie Babbitt never expected that she would write prose and not verse, and while I am eternally grateful that she did start writing prose, I can see why she was so sure of her verse-abilities. I find them so exciting.

I got this book when Edgar was a puppy and Josie was going gray. I smiled and cried then. I revisited when Josie died and I smiled and cried more.

I’ve made such slow progress on this one compared to the first, which I finished in 6 days thanks to a family case of strep throat… alas, everyone in my house is healthy at the moment and it seems like I have to set it down moments after picking it up. I am so anxious to see what actually happens with things start actually happening šŸ˜…
