    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Not the biggest fan of the age gap or the writing style… this book repeats. This book is repetitive. This book has short sentences. This book does this. This book does this a lot.

Listening to the audiobook, I enjoyed and was really impressed by the variety of male voices that each sounded so distinctive and full of character, but allll the internal monologue and narration ends with his voice dropping down– what’s the opposite of vocal fry?– and so each repetition felt like it went on forever.

That said, I still found the story interesting and enjoyed the read well enough!

I can’t believe I never heard of this book before considering is was published when I was in middle school. This concept probably seemed wild back then and it’s still wild now, but given the current climate there are a lot of things expressed in this book that echo conversations about the specifics of what makes someone alive and gives life meaning even today. This is a book that hasn’t skirted around the difficult, more philosophical questions and I think it handles them really well. Can’t wait to talk about this with my book club.

finding it hard to believe the bennetts not only condone ox’s newfound crush for their underage son, but have been waiting for it to happen since he was ten 😬
