this book is very different than what I expected and was looking for. The author does make it clear at the beginning that it's not an academic text but it's still very different than what I expected. It's like an autobiography using fairytales to explain how society views her as a disabled woman, and how fairytales relate to how she views her own disability.
I like the discussions in this book and the author sharing her view of fairy tales through the lens of her own experiences. It provides some great insight. I wish they had been more in-depth explorations of fairy tales and disability but it doesn't have a linear structure which results in a lot of repititions of some fairytales. Overall, it feels more like reading a memoir or autobiography and feels very stream of consciousness writing which isn't really my cup of tea. Kinda disappointed overall.

Disturbing Novel Iceberg - Tier 1
Tier 1 from the disturbing novels iceberg. Iceberg was created in response to the disturbing movie iceberg. These are the 'beginner' books with difficult themes and some gore.

I wish the fairytales/ movies and life stories were discussed in a more linear way. If at least 1 of these were discussed in a linear it would provide some much needed structure to this book. I have heard about the girl with no hands over and over again, but other fairytales no where near as much.
This book really meanders around between different topics. I sometimes really enjoy stream of consciousness writing, but only if it's not so meandering and repetitive. I'm a bit disappointed, I was so excited for this book.

I am really unsure about continuing to read this book, it's very different than what I expected. She does make it clear at the beginning that it's not an academic text but it's still very different than what I expected. It's like an autobiography using fairytales to explain how the author views her life, and how society views her as a disabled woman.
Don't get me wrong, I like the discussions in this book and the author sharing her view of fairy tales through the lens of her own experiences. It provides some great insight. I just was looking for a more in-depth exploration of fairy tales and disability but it feels more like reading a memoir which isn't really my cup of tea

Interesting conversation about gender. Cool body horror. AND a sapphic relationship. Some of my most beloved features to have in a horror book
