I'm just kinda... bored? There's some mystery, but it's not gripping me. Is it worth continuing considering I'm about 50% in? Is there something that's a big twist or gonna shock me somehow? Or, if I'm bored now, do I just kinda give up and let it go?

I guess I’m in the mood for making myself suffer (lol, kidding. A little.), but does anyone have any good recommendations for books about complicated mother-daughter relationships (esp if mom’s an immigrant and daughter is first generation)? I’m open to fic and non-fic.
Thank you, friends!

I'm starting a collection. I've accidentally been reading four books with fantasy academics inconvenienced by being in love with their academic rivals in quick succession (Sorcery and Small Magics, The Entanglement of Rival Wizards, Emily Wilde and Katabasis). Now I'm looking for more to read when I finish those. So, does anybody have more recommendations for books with that trope?

I was going to DNF at 76%, but at that point, I just wanted this to count for my reading goal so I got something out of it. I was excited about the competitions, but there's barely any of that. And not much of the rest of the story worked for me.
