I initially started this series purely for the vibes but with each book I really feel like Laurie finds her footing more and more. Strawberry Patch Pancake House is definitely my favorite in the series so far. This was my first single-dad-trope romance and I went in blind so I didn't even realize that was the case here, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
I think Laurie does well with the competing emotions around mourning an old life and embracing a new as well as the confusion of being confronted with everything you thought you never wanted but now you can't imagine it any other way.
As for the romance, the yearning and slow burn with this one is realll in all the best ways with teasing along the way that rewards your patience. Wasn't expecting to be so giddy and actually laughing out loud! All in all, if you want a feel good romance with some variation of found family and lots of yearning then you'll probably enjoy this one.

Helppp I've hit a slump with this book!!! I reached 70ish % in like 3 days and then haven't picked it up since. I am listening to the graphic audio while I read along and I thought this would've prevented a slump but tbh Violet bringing up the same fight over and over is getting kind of old and I feel for my boy Xaden. Like just let yourself be happy already!!!
Anyway, without any spoilers, can someone please give me the strength I need to finish this book before I return it in 4 days to the library??? Something like a small tease or reward in the book that I won't get unless I finish
And is Onyx Storm more of this back and forth? I think I may need a break from these two if it is 😩 Anyway, thanks in advance book friends 🐉💚

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.
