“My hair was once again coming out of its bun, so I gave up, taking it down and letting it fall over my shoulders.“
There’s something so comforting about how she keeps mentioning the struggle with her hair. I am sure that this might feel repetitive to some readers but if you have hair that doesn’t cooperate or gives you sensory issues like me, it’s an everyday fight. I don’t know it just makes the character feel so human.

I can't think of any way to write this review coherently other than to break it down into the categories above.
Enjoyment: The beginning was making me worried, but I did genuinely enjoy reading the last 70ish%. I wanted to pick it up, I wanted to keep reading. The ending was surprisingly emotional (a few tears were nearly shed), and I really appreciate a good epilogue (I hate not knowing how characters' lives continue on).
Quality: Not really much to say. It is good writing, not amazingly poetic or anything but there isn't anything to fault about it, and it serves the type of book just fine.
Characters: Eeek okay. Filippa was done so well. We don't really get to know her until the very end, but depth was given to her in very few pages with brilliant nuance. This goes hand in hand with Celie, and they both were written to give a really realistic representation of the complex feelings and thoughts we can have about family (especially with their mother being in the mix too). We also got more depth to Michal, which is an improvement on the last book, as well as Dimitri. The rest fell a little flat for me, if I am honest, but they are side characters so it is no huge sin haha. Death was a pretty good villain too.
Plot: Eh... there was a plot, I guess. Nothing special, very predictable, but hey it is a teen read (apparently - the spicy scences beg to differ in my opinion).
Overall, enjoyed it. Solid one to pick up if you are into spicy vampire books!!

The first 50% of the book definitely had me addicted. Shortly after that point I started to lose interest in the overdone enemies-to-lovers romance and find the characters annoying and wasn't engaging with the plot. I may try again later, but for now I find myself unable to continue.

Oh come on... Michal saying he can't focus on Celie's extremely important, life or death, world-ending information because he is naked in bed and she is near him, honestly a little disgusting and pathetic, like I am sure you can stop thinking like that for a few minutes regardless of your own lack of clothes. That gave me a huge ick.
I also have no idea how this book is classed as a teen or young adult read.

Ugh I hate the pet name 'pet'. And the plot is lowkey kinda all over the place so far. I need Michal to start being truthful with poor Celie.

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.

Can we take a moment to appreciate a good FLOPPY book? I am far more likely to buy a book simply because it is floppy. So easy to hold, no worries about spines. Why can’t they all be floppy? If given the choice, would you prefer stiff over floppy?

A few years ago I had a bookstagram account, it was fun and I took it as a hobby, until it wasn’t, I had to post everyday (because that’s what everyone says you have to do) and make reels (I had no idea how to do that haha) and stories and a bunch of things, and honestly, it felt like a whole job! So, I decided to move on and closed it, but ever since, I’ve been missing it quite a bit and now that I’m on PB, I’ve been considering bringing it back! Idk, I’m just having intrusive thoughts haha
What do you think about the whole bookstagram environment? Do you like it? Do you have an account? How do you treat it? Just for fun or as an actual job? I’m just super curious to read everyone’s thoughts! ☺️

I think most of the reason I liked this book is because I managed to read it at exactly the right time, while I was watching Vampire Diaries for the first time. The vampires are so similar in this book to the show and the characters have similarities so it almost just felt like I was reading bonus episodes. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much if that wasn't the case. I may have to eventually reread to assess that.
At the beginning, I thought the writing style was a bit juvenile, but that feeling quickly faded as I got into it. It is a teen read, after all (bit raunchy at some points for that imo).
I really enjoyed Celie as a character, I think she is unique and refreshing. Realistically challenged, and steady, with obvious character growth. The rest, except for maybe Mila, felt a little one dimensional.
Plotwise... I don't know. It was okay I guess. Not great, not terrible. The ending was punchy, but the reveal of the Necromancer.. a little underwhelming perhaps.
Overall, solid read and I did enjoy it.
