I absolutely loved the atmosphere and setting of this story. It was so well written and I flew through it in two sittings, but I was never fully grabbed by it. I expected there to be more gothic or horror elements and it ended up going in a different direction. Not a bad direction, but not the one I wanted. I’d recommend it for the vibe alone and thought it was a unique take on a classic story.
Creepy and depressing. I kept asking myself why am I reading this and why is it taking so long despite it being a pretty short book? I didn’t connect with any of the characters and there truly was not a glimmer of happiness anywhere to be found in this, which left me feeling empty and sad.
This was one of the most vivid, beautiful, and vibey books I’ve read in a long time. Such effortless world building! I want to vacation in this book and can’t wait for the second book.
