"Because that was a parent's job: to provide shoulders. Shoulders for your children to sit on when they're little so they can see the world, then stand on when they get older so they can reach the clouds, and sometimes lean against whenever they stumble and feel unsure."
Such a beautiful quote and thing to think about. Not every child unfortunatally will of had experienced the steady shoulders of their parents. But hopefully at some point in life, even if it's their teachers' or friends' shoulders

I need to breathe , I don't know but while reading it I feel so breathless. Nope, I think I know the real reason. š„ŗ It all felt so real for me. Like super hits šÆ close to home.

If Sally writes it, i'll read it! Really love how she always makes these characters zo relatable and uses grief or depression in each one of them, but still expressing it in different ways in each of her character. I think this book is important for the friends who don't get to see each other often, and feel guilty about it. But it's actually okay. Friendship is held not only by visits, but actually by integrating them in a way that fits in your daily life. Alice and Eileen are sending eachother long-essay like emails. They are both writers, it's how they met so it's totaly normal they are corresponding to each other by email. The mails itself were, like I said, like mini essays. Really worked out, sometimes maybe a little too much information on matters a normal person who didn't go to that same college wouldn't know. Some parts I had to skip to get the main message of what the emails were telling. The character building for each was nice to notice. Get to see how everyone wants to connect, but has personal issues from the past that are holding them back. Even making them more depressed. I think I felt way more for the character Eileen because of her family drama and how she reacts to Simon who wants to take care of her. Great story. Loved the writing and even the ending that took place in the pandemic. I completely forgot about the pandemic if I'm being honest, so it felt like a reminder ro be happy it's all in the past!
