This was a cute book. The pronunciation guide to the sounds use a lot of other languages references (i.e. "this is pronounced like the French r"), which was great for a language nerd like me, bit might be tough to approach for someone unfamiliar with anything other than English.
Regardless, it was a fun, quick read, and now I can write my name in Armenian. My Armenian grandfather would be so proud, lol.

I received this book for free from a Pagebound giveaways. This is my honest review.
This is a fun D&D-flavored found-family fantasy novel. It's got great characters, interesting lore, and an action-packed plot
I loved the maps and guides up front. The author clearly loves the world they've created and the fantasy genre as a whole. I could stare at those maps all day.
As others have said, the writing is probably it's weakest point. The dialogue is awkward at times and character motivations and backstories are over-explained. It took me a while to get into the story as a result and I think the book could have used another pass-through with an editor.
Saying that, the plot, characters, and lore were interesting enough to keep me going. The post-apocalyptic world made it unique among fantasy settings, and flawed characters like Valaris and Jijiro kept me engaged until the end.

Reality is overrated! These surreal and absurd fiction books remove logic to reveal their truths. Here the impossible is inevitable, the strange is necessary, and Kafkaesque is only the beginning.

Really enjoyed this book. Admittedly this was a completely new topic to me, so I don't have the in-depth knowledge to analyze it critically, but I thought it was a good overview of the many different issues around road ecology. Sort of an "Explain Road Ecology like I'm 5," which is perfect for a general audience.
I was especially appreciative of it ending on an uplifting "here is how we're trying to fix this" note. I think it's very easy to wallow in doom and gloom with these topics, and it was nice that Goldfarb didn't do that.
4/5 stars only because parts of it felt like it dragged a bit.
