Bought a copy ages ago and my friend just finished it and loved it so I thought I might as well go now but .. idk ..

The whole ā€œspace is incredible, we’re meant to go to space, out there is everything you’ve ever dreamed ofā€ just doesn’t sit right with me anymore. I’m tired of the uber wealthy spending so much money on going to space when we can’t even keep kids out of poverty and starvation. When the number of climate refugees rise cumulatively every year. When we’re in a human induced heatwave (in Europe) that would categorically never have happened without climate change. [https://www.worldweatherattribution.org/wp-content/uploads/FINAL-WWA-Scientific-Report-European-Heatwave.pdf]

Reading this in the UK during the ā€˜BP heatwave’ is just making me conflate the lovely energy I know this book is supposed to have with the very stark but genuine opinion that we should not be looking to the skies while we let our planet burn with the usual excuse of ā€œit’s too lateā€.

I just can’t relate to the characters at all. At least not their hopes and dreams. This is early days in the book, I love Taylor Jenkins Reid and I want that positive boost from her writing rn but .. idk. Am I alone in any of this ???
