My first Cara Bastone and I was not disappointed! A nyc slow burn romance where a couple tries to find their way back to each other through agonizing miscommunication and tenderness?? (apparently sign me up?) I love how this author gave me something new to the romance genre and isn't afraid to make readers a little uncomfortable. Reading her work makes me feel every emotion and I love that!
A moment for the cover, and a moment for this quote: "I put my heart in her chest and she carries it around. And she’ll put flowers on my grave. And from the moment I realized that I wanted to marry her, I was already thinking about the end. Not the end of our relationship, but the end…of it all. Loving her made me think about death. In a good way. It was a gift. It was because I wasn’t scared to go. Not when I had her."

Somewhere between a 4 and 4.5! - I had a great reading experience with this and I enjoyed the audiobook narrator! If you don't like second chance you will probably not like this lol! but I found the friendships and dialogue to be really great and supported the romance well. The setting was peak summer atmosphere and nostalgia!

Really enjoyed this! I loved the switching of timelines and learning more about Darlington and Alex's backgrounds. I feel like a strength of this book was pairing these two together--Alex, who I like to think of as a snake with violent tendencies, and Darlington, "the golden boy of Lethe." It was interesting to see how they evolved and found commonalities by the end of this book. I loved learning about the different societies, their magic, and also their corruption. The ending was really great as well, and I can't wait to pick up Hellbent!!
