I never read The Tainted Cup, and I'm diving into this with no foreknowledge, because the book is a Hugo finalist. I hope that's going to be okay.

The Summer War was an entertaining read. It's a fantasy story set in a world where the human kingdom is locked in a long war with the Fey (aka the summer people), and there's a curse, the politics of succession, sorcery, and a knight who doesn't want to conform to traditional gender roles.
My favorite character was Roric, the little "backup" brother that nobody thought of, because he's not the heir, but a good brother to his two siblings, and the eventual MVP.
