I’m just starting to realise how much Netflix whitewashed and dumbed down this book to make the show appealing to the average Western viewer, and how much that ruined it.
The book: set in China with lots of political commentary on the revolution and science, combined with lots of scientific concepts that are explained well enough to be interesting.
The show: a bunch of British people play a game.

Reading Garth Nix is always a pleasure, and Sabriel is one of his best. The worldbuilding and magic system are very unique and well thought out and the book is just overall a really good read.
