It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a delicious, delightful read.
Artfully crafted, the Empire of Khanum comes alive with its weird and wonderful world, intricate politics and monstrous leviathans. I especially loved RJB’s concise writing and Ana and Din’s dynamics. The supporting characters weren’t wasted either - they complemented our leads and helped drive the story to its conclusion.
I note that some readers didn’t enjoy the detached first person pov, but I personally liked it because I prefer a bit more distance from a protagonist’s inner thoughts, making it feel less intimate than most first person perspectives.
Very curious to see how the Empire will change in future instalments. Hoping (and coping) that we’ll see our superb cast of supports again. I’ve developed a soft spot for Miljin, not to mention Vashta and Strovi 🥹.
Onto the next.
