Traveling back or forth in time: - a character intentionally travels to another time.

Person/people displaced in time: a character ends up in another time by accident and is stuck, trying (or having tried) to get back. The POV doesn’t have to be from the displaced character.

Time loop: same time period keeps repeating.

Time pocket: - a character spends meaningful time in a time pocket while real time is frozen or moves differently.

Step Two Check whether the book has already been recommended.

whew! what a book to read after getting back into reading after a long time. i'll admit, the dense narrative and eloquent writing is intimidating and i need to have the dictionary on hand a lot, but im so fascinated by this world Chambers has crafted, i wanna keep going and see where Dex's journey takes them. god what i would give to see a visual representation of all these cities and communities they've visited, particularly Little Creek and the Woodlands!

I just wanted to post this to praise Bardugo for how she manages these multiple POVs. I've never read books with more than 2 (maybe 3) POVs, but they didn't always work out nicely or it felt unnecessary. But Bardugo doesn't just make 5+ POVs work, it actually enhances the storytelling/reading experience imo. Specifically around 57% (where I'm at currently) I feel like the POVs work so well. A cliffhanger occurred and instead of immediate payoff/resolution in the next chapter you get a new POV and a new cliffhanger. And then AGAIN. The suspense/anxiety keeps building and with it the need to keep reading. I just thought it was so smart because the payoff is so much higher than with a single POV.

I know not all people love multiple POVs, especially when you don't like a specific character, but I wonder what others think of this!

Having a room in an attic used to be my dream since i was a child. Imagine all that space! It's like having your own house 🥹

I feel conflicted about Din's characterization in this first quarter of the book. I appreciate seeing how his job has changed him (his inner voice is more cynical, his smoking and relationships habits show how desperate he is to find some relief from the horrors engraved in his memory). But I also think the gap between Din from book 1 and Din from book 2 is too big. As a reader we are missing so many elements to fill that gap because we didn't see it happen and the author doesn't dwell on it much. I grew attached to Din 1, and suddenly I'm reading about Din 2 whom I don't recognise and don't know. It's logical for him to grow and be shaped by what he has done and seen. But we didn't follow him through it and now I just grieve/miss the character I followed in book 1 who isn't really there anymore.
