75 Booked Challenge starts on Friday!! More Info. on how to participate!
Hi All,
Some of you may have seen my earlier post about running an informal 75 Booked Challenge! There was some interest and desire for participation, so I wanted to formally introduce the challenge, how I will be "facilitating", and welcome folks!
đź“š What is the 75 Booked Challenge?
- This challenge is based off the popular fitness challenge called 75 hard; however, the 75 Booked challenge is a much softer and meant to encourage TBR tackling, building bookish community, spending time with your reading practice, and reducing bookish consumption for 75 days. The challenge was created by @emilypaigebooks on TikTok and all credit goes to that account!
đź“š What are the rules?
Official challenge rules:
- Complete two 45-minute reading sessions each day (one of them not in bed). And yes, audiobooks count.
- Finish a water bottle during each reading session.
- Log all your reading in a physical journal.
- No purchasing new books—everything you read must already be owned, bought secondhand, or borrowed from a library. (found on The Everygirl, written by Leanna Julius)
Added community guidelines:
- we celebrate ALL reading (audiobooks, e-readers, physical books, etc.)
- we do not participate in genre shaming! read what you want and leave what you don't!
- customize the "rules" to fit your needs! For some (myself included) two 45 minute sessions a day is not attainable - that's 100% okay and you are still welcome to participate!

I will be posting weekly updates in the Pagebound Club every Friday for the duration of the challenge! I'll include some prompts encouraging people to share their experiences, what they're reading, etc. with each post. They will be clearly labeled with "75 Booked Challenge - [Insert Week] Wrap-Up".
Note: I am holding myself gently accountable for this because I want to build community; however, I may accidentally miss a week or be a bit late. Please be understanding :)

I am looking for a fun summer challenge that isn't at all related to fitness, mindfulness, or health so I'd like to start the 75 booked challenge on May 15th! I think this is the perfect summer challenge because I can explore all my local parks and lakes while completing it! Rashomon and Other Stories
Ryūnosuke Akutagawa
Writing at the beginning of the twentieth century, Ryunosuke Akutagawa created disturbing stories out of Japan's cultural upheaval. Whether his fictions are set centuries past or close to the present, Akutagawa was a modernist, writing in polished, superbly nuanced prose subtly exposing human needs and flaws. "In a Grove," which was the basis for Kurosawa's classic film Rashomon, tells the chilling story of the killing of a samurai through the testimony of witnesses, including the spirit of the murdered man. The fable-like "Yam Gruel" is an account of desire and humiliation, but one in which the reader's sympathy is thoroughly unsettled. And in "The Martyr," a beloved orphan raised by Jesuit priests is exiled when he refuses to admit that he made a local girl pregnant. He regains their love and respect only at the price of his life. All six tales in the collection show Akutagawa as a master storyteller and an exciting voice of modern Japanese literature.
