Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
Gregory Maguire
Okay everyone loves to talk about how dark and dense this book is and all of that is certainly true but why have I never heard anyone talk about how FUNNY it is? Every line is somehow both quadruple loaded with allegory and also and absolute banger insult. Shakespearean levels of being read to filth.

Reading this book is like walking through a forest finding the pieces to a borderless jigsaw puzzle one at a time. I have never highlighted and dog-eared so aggressively and it has never paid of more. Every sentence makes you see a seemingly insignificant one from 100 pages ago in a completely new light. And not in a grand-mystery-thriller way just like. Use your brain and think about something with no definitive answer. Now think about it again. I think it's really truly brilliant.
