Strange Beasts of China
Yan Ge
i don't think this book will be for everyone but it was very much for me. i loved all the stories, even the weirder ones that were less clear. i really love urban fantasy as a genre, and i really liked the tone of both the prose and the protagonist's narration. it was very much worth my $5 at a library bookstore (lol).

at its heart this book is really just about what it means to be human, no matter what type of person (or beast) you are. imo that was pretty clear in the text, and i really liked how each story (about a different type of beast) discusses stereotypes & biases & how these impact their everyday lives just trying to live, and at the end of each story you kinda see how it all comes together. i also just really liked the narrator I thought she was funny & a bit sardonic, and you see how even her own life is not unaffected by the events she sees and writes about. i tried to be a bit vague cause i don't wanna give away too much!
