I relate to David quite a lot, so many of his experiences mirror mine. I completely understand his feelings of shame and embarrassment as heās discovering parts of his sexuality. I hope he finds peace in the later chapters.

I'm still only at about the halfway point of the book, but I'm currently very entertained by trying to picture the different creatures and being quite certain my mental image is wrong. Like the dragons and wyrms I feel I've got down, but the half-wyrm offspring? Or the inchneumon Aralaq and Sarsan the priory bird thing (I'm sorry I'm forgetting his actual species name)? For example: no matter how many times Aralaq is described as like rideable and faster than a horse or a leopard and presumably similarly 4 legged, I CANNOTTTTTT stop picturing a super fast ostrich. I know he's not a bird. I know it. But my brain says ostrich.

I enjoyed reading this the second time around. The movie couldnāt capture this bookās beautiful insanity, but itās one of my favorite movies. Perfume pulls you in different directions of rooting and loathing for Grenouille. He is both stupid and genius, lonely and needy, crazy and cunningā a juxtaposition in himself. This book is insanely mad, tasteful, desolate, and obsessive.
