this went way better than i thought it would. it had the perfect mixture of both joy and grief. they were dealing with their own ghosts with two completely different perspectives. this was so gut-wrenching at times, especially when it came to sawyer's denial of kennedy's death. he was sooo comfortable with having her close to him that he didn't realize how detrimental it was to both kennedy and himself.. i loved the characters, i loved their growth, and i loved the journey. zach was such a good addition to the mix, although it was under very unfortunate circumstances.

this felt so.... studio ghibli? i mean that in the best way possible because i enjoyed it so much. when the sentinel (takkan) was first introduced, i had my fingers crossed that he would be THE mmc. i looooved them together; the pacing and development were so well done. the way he treated her when they first met, and the amount of respect he had for her, were just... chef's kiss fr. his truly SEEING her was exactly what had me rooting for him. i cannot wait to continue and finish this series!

oh miss ann liang had impeccable timing with this one. i was just having a conversation with my sister about changing my career path. i recieved the exact critiques/remarks that allison had with her parents. "i brainwashed myself into thinking that was the only option, that jobs weren't meant to be enjoyed, that there wasn't more to life." that hit me sooo hard because i'm in the middle of having the same kind of revelation that she had. the way she spoke about it felt so validating to my thought process and truly helped me with my decision for my own crisis LOL.

i am so mad that she agreed to write this novella for the fact that there are only 48 pages. i love this novella but i yearn for more. i need more luke and i have this selfish need to see how her life plays out.

thank you to the pubisher for the arc (via netgalley)! (:
