  • If Earth was a fantasy world...

I enjoy fantasy books, but I've always struggled with the world-building because it's hard for me to wrap my brain around systems (magical, biological, etc.) that we don't experience in our reality. That led me to wondering, if our lives took place in a fantasy world, what aspects would the readers find weird or unrealistic? For me, it's gotta be toilets. Like, wdym we have special rooms with a bowl to dump our waste in? I think I'd find that crazy if it wasn't a normal part of our lives haha

    2026 🍁 Fall Readalong - ✨Sparkle Chasers✨, Cast your predictions🔮!

    Hello PBees 🐝

Since we had some fun casting predictions for the 2026 Summer Readalong (see 🔗previous post), I thought we could do it again for the Fall one!

So the main question is: If you were to read all the books, what do you think your top for the 2026 Fall Readalong would be?

I don't think I'll go for the sparkly badge this time, but we never know, prepping for this post made me more interested! So here is my prediction:

    1. 🪄 The Incandescent
    2. ✍️ Death of the Author
    3. 🐦 The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love
    4. 🐺 How to be Eaten

    • You can cast your prediction even if you don't plan on aiming for the sparkles! In fact, don't push yourself too much for it, the goal is to enjoy reading and having fun discussions first of all!
    • You can also participate if you've already read them all (I see you speedy peeps 👀🏃‍➡️) Just retroactively list what you thought it could have been going in!
    • If you have already read a book, add a ✅green check at the end of the line. That way, we can see if you are going in blind or already have a good idea of whether you've liked some!

We will be doing a retrospective at the end of the Readalong to compare what we thought vs what was actually our final top! (The Summer one is coming next week! Just waiting for the last rush to pass, for people like me who procrastinate until the last minute 🫣)

  • Good books for french beginners

Hi all, Looking for some advice. I started learning french by myself about a year and a half ago. I did learn mostly on duolingo to gain vocabulary and a basic sense of how sentences are strung together. Also learned a bit in a workbook. Then I started reading l’étranger by Albert Camus which honestly is fine to read but just a little long for a beginner so it makes me lose focus in between.

Currently I am finishing up ”Short Stories in French for Beginners” by Olly Richards which I absolutely love in terms of how it is made and the difficulty level. After finishing it I would like to add more books like that but maybe also some easy reads.

Do you guys have any suggestions for me? It would be very appreciated 🫶🏻

I would love for the french level to be somewhere around A2 -> B1

  • Book strategies or goals 📖

I saw a post the other day that said if you read 15 pages of East Of Eden a day around this point you'll have finished it in time for the Netflix series. Has been a long week and was feeling pretty unmotivated to read but this seemed like a fun challenge to set myself and has gotten me properly started with the book! Wondered if anyone has had or is planning any similar strategies when you're reading for a particular goal or there's a plan behind your reading? ✨️

  • DNF counts as a read for quests?

I DNFed a book in a limited time quest. I have read 2 books from the 6 books in the quest and the 3rd is a DNF, but the quest says I have read 3 books. When I DNFed a book in normal main quest, it doesn't count as a read book. Is this a bug or a special feature for limited time quests?

The main characters felt flat to me. They were the least interesting ones in the story, and their choices weren’t well explained. We would just jump from following one path to veering onto another. It was definitely plot-driven versus character-driven. The magic system is what stopped this from being a DNF to me. However, a cool magic system and a beautiful way of writing isn’t enough to make me continue with the series.
