Sweetheart: Part One (A Reverse Harem Omegaverse Bully Duet #1; PoisonVerse)

I didn't think I would get to the end of this trilogy. there were so many positives and negatives to these books that it's so hard to explain whether I actually liked it or not.
as always I enjoyed Marie Mackay and also the poisonverse's take on the omegaverse. they add increasingly more layers to it that can actually at points make it fascinating. in this trilogy specifically, SO much was explained about the actual technical side of alphas and omegas. so much so I wish I'd read this before I had the others books I read for this series as I had so many questions that these books explained. I still even wish more detail could be added, but that is just my personal opinion as in reality the book had the right amount for explanation in to make sense.
I loved the characters and the fact that they have horrible pasts that they are healing from together. it creates slightly more complex characters when the trauma is different and well thought out. it meant that they had their flaws which added to their relationship together. one thing I hoped for though throughout the books was more depth and personality for the characters. I felt that through the trauma and instincts of their designations the characters could sometimes lose a bit of their individuality that makes this series so nice to read.
linking into this, I think that sometimes there was TOO much sex. I believe that occasionally moments were just put into the book simply so there was a nonsensical reason to have sex. it got annoying. it seemed that to really inforce this being dark romance an increased amount of these scenes were added which in turn damaged the plots integrity, the flow, and the enjoyability of the books. it seemed to drag on and alot was very repetitive.

Reality is overrated! These surreal and absurd fiction books remove logic to reveal their truths. Here the impossible is inevitable, the strange is necessary, and Kafkaesque is only the beginning.

I am so scared to read this book in a, I may dnf it way.
I found the book 1 a boring ish read and book 2 more so. I am practically here for the plot and nothing else as I NEED to know how this plays out after the last few chapters of book 2 dropped on me like a bomb. I also vowed to read every poison verse book so I am now stuck. 😭🔫

as always I enjoy what Marie Mackay brings to the table when it comes to the omegaverse. the stories with omegaverse usually lack substance and an exciting plot, but Mackay brings these amazingly with unique plot points and rules within the omegaverse.
however I do feel like this particular trilogy is slightly missing this mark (I may rant a bit so don't mind me). now don't get me wrong the plot is extremely good for this genre of book. there is A LOT of tension going on, it slowly building at a mildly bearable pace, the backstories that shape the plot as always are detailed and well thought out. even characters from other books are expanded, in this book particularly vandle from anarchy. but as I said in the first book, alot of was makes Mackay's books good is being overshadowed by the dark romance elements, and what I mean by this is the copious amounts of smut that is not needed at all. it's ruining the plot, making it drag. this shouldn't be a trilogy, I feel as though if you remove most sex scenes it could be a duology. I'm okay with sex scenes but when they are thrown in for stupid reasons: she's nervous so he fucks her on a balcony, she just experienced a traumatic event, he finds her hot when she's teaching him. this is fine once or twice but it's happening often and it's dry and pretty repetitive.
AND I am experiencing emotional turmoil now because this author is a champion at messing with my feelings. in all her books that I have read the happiness and elation from the characters practically glows from the books, and then it gets ripped away, stomped on, blended, killed, you name it at the end. THIS book was seriously no different. we got the happy moments after the horrible scene of chapter 15 and then suddenly by the end of the book everything has now gone to utter shit and I want to SCREAM. I love it and hate it.
