I like books with twists and danger. 💫 Morally grey characters make it more interesting.⚖️ A happy ending is optional.🥱

    I really enjoyed this!

Short and fast chapters are always appealing to me. We went straight into the main story without a big build up or background. There was a nice bit of humour mixed in with tension.

Overall, a nice easy book to read and great for slumps!

    Unsure? (Thoughts from 15%)

I am struggling to get into this..

It may be that I am just getting back into reading and this has some long chapters with a jumping timeline!

The story line does have potential.

I am conflicted as to whether I force myself to keep reading but risk a slump, or soft DNF it🫠

I see people love the audiobook, where are we listening to it? Maybe I should try immersive reading for this one.

    From the Cold

    From the Cold

    Mia K. Rose

She was born to be a lady of the court… not a woman who can kill a monster made of death. When a soul-stealing demi-lich stalks her father’s lands, twenty-year-old Claris seizes the one chance she’s ever had to break free of her gilded future. Joining the hunt means defying tradition, risking scandal, and possibly her life… but it also means finally becoming the warrior she’s dreamed of. Earning her place among the seasoned garde is hard enough. Resisting Torsten is harder. The aggravatingly handsome warrior with a roguish smile challenges her every step… and makes her wish her future weren’t already promised. As fae tricksters, corpse crawlers, and marauders close in, Claris’s blade skills are pushed to their breaking point, and so is the slow-burn desire she and Torsten can no longer ignore. But the demi-lich has a secret weakness… and exploiting it will demand a sacrifice Claris never expected. To save her people, she must decide what she’s willing to risk—her duty, her future, or her heart.

    I don’t think I am a sci-fi person!

On that note, I can appreciate how well this book was written and I enjoyed jumping between timelines so that you could fully understand the development of the Hail Mary project.

The main characters are so loveable. Grace has a dry sense of humour that seems realistic given his situation (Perfect for Ryan Gosling) and Rocky is very lovable with his childlike innocence and curiosity.

The plot was intriguing but unfortunately just too much science and maths for me. I was able to follow along with what they were talking about, but I just did not particularly enjoy those parts. However, I imagine if you are a sci-fi reader you will appreciate it!

On a minor note, this is a book with long chapters, which isn’t my personal preference but it was still manageable!

This is a good book and despite my personal tastes I still sat up reading it every night and will have to go to the cinema to see Rocky brought to life🚀

  • Audiobooks, yes or no?🎧

I’ve never tried an audiobook! Are there specific books that we think is best to engage with via audiobook?

Also, what are we doing with ourselves whilst listening to the story.. crocheting, colouring, immersive reading??

I find I need to keep my hands busy or they will naturally gravitate to my phone and mindless scrolling, hence why I enjoy reading.

    What’s our thoughts on audiobooks?🤨
