this book feels like a hot summer day on the beach, like squinting your eyes trying not to get blinded by the sun and therefore seeing everything through a blur. Sophie and her mother are in spain to consult a doctor who they hope can help them finding out what mysterious disease Sophie’s mother has. it follows Sophie through her days and thoughts while passing her time in spain, meeting love interests and dealing with what to do with herself and life. it’s about family and the meaning of familial love, how we define ourselves and the slim line between imagination and reality. i recommend but you will be confused while and after reading.

finished this book with tears in my eyes! it’s a gripping, deeply moving story about two childhood friends starting a game company with a third friend. the book is divided into several parts that are narrated slightly different. that makes it possible to see the perspectives of more than one person which is essential to the book and understanding the story. it is a beautiful story but very heavy as well so be aware that themes of loss and sometimes graphic descriptions are used. i like that we know a lot about the characters but also not every minor detail of their lives and days. it’s just enough to understand why they are operating the way they do (mostly) but not getting lost in descriptions of everyday life. although i feel a bit unsatisfied with the ending, it still is hopeful and realistic. as the entire book is. it made me think more about interpersonal connections and what we decide to share with loved ones and why. great read, highly recommend (though i cried multiple times while reading)!!
